Covid 19 update
In light of the latest government advice on schools reopening, The Ashwood Academy will not be opening the school up to year 10s until Monday the 15th June.
The government have stated that:
“On 24 May the Prime Minister announced that secondary schools should plan on the basis that from the week commencing 15 June, they can invite year 10 and 12 pupils (years 10 and 11 for alternative provision schools1) back into school for some face-to-face support with their teachers, subject to the government’s 5 tests being met.”
“Any plans that secondary schools have made for pupils to return earlier in June should be amended to commence from 15 June.”
The Ashwood Academy will continue to offer provision to our vulnerable students and those whose parents are key workers from Tuesday the 2nd of June. These students will be receiving a phone call on Monday.
Despite these challenging times, The Ashwood Academy would like to thank you for being supportive and we hope to go back to normality once it is safe to do so.
If you have any concerns/ queries, please remember our site number is contactable between the hours of 8:30am and 17:00pm on 07739511274.

30.03.2020 @ 14.52 - Year 11's ONLY
I hope you are all keeping safe and well. I am sure this is an anxious time for you, including your child.
This is the latest update we have received from Ofqual regarding the grading of examinations:
We are rapidly working up plans to implement the arrangements the Secretary of State for Education has set out for exams this summer and, with exam boards and teaching bodies, are making considerable progress.
Students understandably want reassurance, and teachers urgently need to know what to do, and when. We expect to publish detailed information about the process and timetable which will apply this summer next week. This will include the steps we would like teachers to follow and more detailed guidance on how to consider the full range of evidence they will have available when submitting their assessment grades. We are talking to teaching representatives to make sure that what we are planning is manageable and appropriate, so that students, parents, carers and teachers can have confidence in the approach.
We will outline by Easter the process we will follow to make sure grades are fair across schools and colleges, as well as our proposals for appeals. We will also say more as soon as possible about the arrangements for additional exams in the new academic year.
We want to reassure students waiting for news that we are doing everything we can to make sure they are not disadvantaged by these unprecedented circumstances.
We are expecting more updates towards the end of this week. As soon as we have the information we will of course share it with you all.

A scam is operating which is targeting parents in schools – see below.
We have been alerted by the DFE that some parents have received an email stating :
‘As schools will be closing, if you're entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we'll make sure you're supported’.
This is a scam email - do not respond, and delete immediately.

Following guidelines from the government, our school will remain open for certain vulnerable groups only, starting on Monday 23.03.20. Parents of these students will be called tomorrow to be notified. The behaviour policy and high expectations will continue as normal. Students will be expected to be on time, engage in activities and display safe behaviours onsite. If a student is unable to do so, we will re-look at their provision. The aim is promote a safe and calm environment for our most vulnerable students and to provide support during this time.
If you have not been contacted by us, this means your child does not fit this bracket and will be expected to work from home continuing with online learning through Century Tech and Achieve 3000. In addition, you will receive a supportive phone call once throughout the week to offer support, including questions around online learning. Please note, if we are unable to get hold of you, this will be raised and will lead to a welfare check.

The Coronavirus pandemic brings with it a significant amount of uncertainty and continues to be emotionally challenging for many people, changing day-to-day life in unprecedented ways over the coming weeks and months.
We know this can be a very unnerving time for children and young people, who may feel their mood is affected more than normal. Children and young people may be feeling more stressed, anxious, worried and low as they absorb and react to the evolving Coronavirus situation.
As a reminder for your students, ThinkNinja is available to support students with their mental health and emotional wellbeing in this time of uncertainty.
We would like your help in reminding students about the benefits of ThinkNinja and how it can support their emotional wellbeing during this time. ThinkNinja can help your students in the following ways:
1. Keeping calm when stress levels rise by accessing the Skill Zone for breathing and distraction exercises
2. Helping to address unhelpful thoughts related to Coronavirus in the CBT skills section and My Challenges section
3. Boosting their mood with various PowerUps
4. Connecting via text chat with a 'live' Healios mental health professional, if required, all within the app
We hope this is a useful reminder about ThinkNinja and how it can help your students during this very difficult time. For guidance and helpful materials for communicating with students, including videos, visit https://www.healos.org.uk/think-ninja-assets
